Eventually there will be a whole section of the site devoted to Colin Dann's Farthing Wood novels, but for now here are some basic details on the books, and the author himself.

THE ANIMALS OF FARTHING WOOD (1979)
Farthing Wood is invaded by men with bulldozers and the animals and birds know that they have to flee. They must escape to a far-off nature reserve. But the journey is long and hard, and not even Fox, their brave and intelligent leader is prepared for the dangers that lie ahead. When disaster strikes the group, reaching their new home seems an impossible dream...
The plot of this book was featured in season one.
 
IN THE GRIP OF WINTER (1981)
In the depths of winter, with snow thick on the ground, Badger lies alone and injured. No one knows where he is, and the icy cold is tightening its grip every second. What will happen to Badger? And can the other animals of Farthing Wood survive the harsh cold and piercing hunger that winter has brought?
The plot of this book was featured in the first 6 episodes of season two.
 
FOX'S FEUD (1982)
The fox cub Dreamer has been killed in a vicious attack by the old fox Scarface. Fox vows revenge. But are he and his family a match for the formidable strength of Scarface and his clan? Once again the Animals of Farthing Wood must band together to avert disaster.
The plot of this book was featured throughout season two.
 
THE FOX CUB BOLD (1983)
The fox cub Bold has left the nature reserve in search of adventure. But he discovers the dangers of life beyond White Deer Park when he is badly wounded by a hunter's gun and unable to hunt for food. Can Bold survive? Winter is coming and friends are hard to find.
The plot of this book was featured in the final 6 episodes of season two.
 
THE SIEGE OF WHITE DEER PARK (1985)
Terror has come to White Deer Park. A killer beast is on the loose - a predator that leaves almost no trace, and has never been seen. As the deaths mount up, the animals of the park meet to make a plan. They have survived so many threats before, but have they finally met their match?
The main plot of this book was never adapted for the TV series, due to the level of horror. However the sub-plot of Badger believing that Mossy is his dead father Mole, was featured in season two.
 
IN THE PATH OF THE STORM (1989)
Trey, the new leader of the deer herd of White Deer Park, has decided that there is no room for the smaller animals in the reserve. The future looks bleak for Badger, Adder, Owl and the others - and then the night of the great storm brings more danger...
The plot of this book was featured throughout season three.
 
BATTLE FOR THE PARK (1992)
When Plucky the fox dissaears, the other animals soon realise that he isn't the only one missing from the reserve. And the Warden, whom the animals have learnt to trust, is responsible! The animals are frightened and confused - and then another threat appears. A stealthy gang of rats, led by the cunning Bully, is invading White Deer Park...
The plot of this book was featured throughout season three.
 
THE ADVENTURE BEGINS (1994)
There had always been otters in the stream running through Farthing Wood - and that had never been a problem for the other animals before. But when there is a shortage of fish in the stream, the otters take to coming ashore to hunt for new prey. Suddenly, the Farthing Wood animals have to compete for food - and they don't like it. Lean Vixen and the others are determined not to starve, and that means deciding on a plan to drive the otters out once and for all...
A prequel set 5 years before the first novel, this has never been adapted for television.
 
THE AUTHORColin Dann was born on the 10th March, 1943 in Richmond, Surrey in England. His interest in natural history was fostered by studying the local wildlife in Richmond Park when he was young. Wildlife success came at the age of ten, when he won a London Schools Essay Competition set by the RSPCA. His prize was a copy of the Wind in the Willows.

For many years he worked for Collins, the publishers. It was during this period that his concern for conservation lead him to write his first novel, The Animals of Farthing Wood, which won the Arts Council National Award for Children's Literature in 1980.

He later went on to write a further 7 books in the Animals of Farthing Wood series. after the success of his first novel, and released many other books based on animals. To this day, his Farthing Wood series has been the best selling of all his novels, and they are loved by children and adults from around the world.
